Notifications

The notifications section still has the same subsections within it, but there are some notable UI and UX changes outlined below.

Desktop notifications

This section has some language changes, UI, and UX changes.

If desktop notifications have not been enabled

In this case, none of the desktop notification settings will display, but instead a section notice displays with a prompt to enable notifications.

Notify me about…

We’ve changed “Send desktop notifications” to “Notify me about…” and adjusted the language of the radio buttons below it accordingly

  • All new messages

    • No changes to behavior when this is selected

  • Mentions and direct messages only (default)

    • No changes to behavior when this is selected

  • Nothing

    • When this is selected, remove the “Thread reply notifications” section and the “Sounds” section (as we do currently)

Sounds

Enable notification sounds (default = checked)

When ‘Enable notification sounds’ is checked, show the sound dropdown. By default, this is turned on and the default sound is ‘Bing’. The ‘Sound’ dropdown now disaplys inline next to the checkbox rather than under it.

When it is unchecked, hide the sound dropdown (as we do currently).

Mobile notifications

Use the same notification settings as desktop (default = checked)

The proposed change here is to follow the same settings as desktop notifications by default (checked state).

Only when users uncheck ‘Use same notification settings as desktop’ will the additional set of notification settings for mobile show.

Only trigger mobile notifications when I am… (default = Away or offline)

Users can choose whether or not they want to receive mobile notifications (same as current). This setting now uses a select input (dropdown) instead of radio buttons to help differentiate visually from the other settings.

This shows in the Mobile notifications section regardless of the ‘Use same notification settings as Desktop’ setting.

Email Notifications

Enable email notifications (default = off)

  • Changes this setting to an initial single checkbox to enable email notifications

  • If unchecked (default), the email frequency settings do not show

  • If checked, show options for how often to send

Email send frequency (default = immediately)

  • If set to Immediately, send single notification emails for each notification right away

  • If set to every once 15 minutes or once every hour, batch multiple notifications in to one email

Keywords that trigger mentions

Updates:

  • This section has been renamed (formerly “Words that trigger mentions”).

  • Remove ‘Your username’. Always trigger mentions when a username is used (with or without the `@`)

    • For any user that had this setting turned off, it will be forced on with this update and users will always get mentions if their username is referenced (with or without the @)

  • Remove the ‘Other keywords’ checkbox and just surface the keywords input box always

    • Box should grow as more chips are added

  • Use chips for keywords

Automatic Replies for Direct Messages

This setting is an experimental setting and may not show for all servers if it’s no enabled.

Enable automatic replies (default = OFF)

When the setting is off, the message text area is hidden.

When this setting is turned on, show the text area input for entering the automatic message.
