Sharing to the community
In Progress
As part of the design team OKR’s, we want to share and invite others who may be interested in contributing to the design of the Mattermost application. With leveraging communities, we will begin to share our work and design system (Compass) for people to become contributors.
Listed below are different communities that we will begin to share to, an explanation of how we want to share, and types of posts that we will share. In keeping inline with our core principles, we will insist on high standards for posts, and provide a review process for each post with the design team. The goal for sharing to these communities will not only bring light to the Mattermost design team and application, but be a place for members of the design team to share their talents that exist outside of feature work.
Figma:
Figma is our main design tool that houses our Compass design system, with that, we will want to share to the Figma community our design system.
Like a fellow open source company, here is an example of how we can share our Compass Design System we have it live for both Figma and website.
Dribbble
Dribbble is a social community for designers and design teams to share work. This will be one of the two main sites that we will share pieces of the UI that bring to light the Mattermost application. We will also use this site to share non UI related pieces to be shared and allow the design team to flex their creative juices.
Mattermost will have a team account that invites design team members to join. Outlining what we will share on the platform are listed below.
Marketing Related Posts: (Possible)
Marketing related pieces refer to anything to do with the marketing site or marketing upcoming features of the application. A good example of this would be Cloud. Dribbble would be a great place to share small pieces of the UI for Cloud or features of Cloud that could be teasers to upcoming releases.

Hacktoberfest:
Being an open source platform, Hacktoberfest is a great time where we have people contribute to the application and is celebrated throughout different open source companies. This would be a great time to advertise or opportunity for us to invite designers to contribute as well.
Hiring Posts:
We could also utilize our team account to post when we are hiring other designers to the team. As the team page grows, we will start to attract talent to the page, and Dribbble has started to grow in the hiring process as places designers go to look for design jobs.
UI Components
UI components is a great way to share some small pieces of feature work that we are working on without revealing the entire solution. Also, as part of the open source mindset, we could share pieces of UI that we worked on that did not get “approved”. This could be a way to share our process and how we go through approving UI features. Some examples of teams sharing UI pieces are below.
