Hi everyone, I'm {YourName), I’ll be facilitating the testing session today. I really appreciate you taking time out of your day to participate in this usability test.

Introduction

We’re doing this usability test to see how you interact with our product and to hear your thoughts on it. We’re trying to make Mattermost the best it can be, so your honest thoughts are really important to us.

We’ll start by asking you questions about you, your background, and your relevant experience. Then we’ll ask you to share your screen and complete a series of tasks using the provided prototype (or live product or website*). Once the tasks have been completed, I’d like to get some feedback from you about your experience with the product.

Before we begin, I’d like to remind you of a few things:

Remember that we aren’t testing you today, we’re testing our product. If something isn’t working, don’t worry, it’s a problem with our product/feature and not something you’ve done wrong. In fact, there are no wrong answers here.

When using the prototype, try to act as naturally as possible. I get that it may be hard to do that with us watching your screen. But, please try to act as if you were using the app on your own, without anyone watching.

Think aloud as you’re using the prototype, it’s super helpful for us. We really want to hear your thoughts, like where you’re navigating on the page, why you’re clicking somewhere, what you expect to happen when you do click, that sort of thing. Let’s try and save questions until the end, we don’t want to bias your experience. But feel free to ask them out loud, and I’ll answer them at the end.

We’d truly like you to be as honest as possible. If something doesn’t make sense, or it’s not working as you’d expect, then feel free to tell us. You’re not going to hurt our feelings, so don’t worry about that.

Testing

We’ve put together a series of tasks to complete to help us understand the feature and how you use it. The tasks will be completed using design prototypes and not the actual Mattermost product or website.

Note, we may test with the live product or website under certain conditions.

Scenario

Add the scenario the user will be testing against. Keep it brief, no more than 2-3 sentences.

For example, “You're an active mobile user with multiple servers. You'd like a better way to discover unread messages and mentions across your servers and quickly access the servers.”

Tasks

We’ve prepared a handful of tasks for you based on the scenario we described. Provide the prototype link to the user, if you haven’t already. Have them open the link to get started!
